Medical and travel insurance
Under the rules of the Code, International students must have appropriate current medical and travel insurance while studying in New Zealand. This is because medical costs in New Zealand are very high and SBG does not cover students individually. We provide a standard package from Southern Cross Insurance
SBG will accept policies taken out overseas. An English language version of the policy must be provided. SBG does not require students to hold a policy by a particular company or companies. Further details can be requested from SBG.
Accident Insurance
The Accident Compensation Corporation provides accident insurance for all New Zealand citizens, residents, and temporary visitors to New Zealand, but you may still be liable for all other medical and related costs. Further information can be viewed on the acc website.
