Public Sector Knowledge - FAQ What are the Public Sector Knowledge Courses?
There are two Certificates in Public Sector Knowledge available, National Certificate in Public Sector Level 3 and Certificate in Advanced Public Sector Knowledge Level 5.
National Certificate in Public Sector Level 3 is an introductory course providing essential knowledge for those wanting to work effectively within the New Zealand State sector. View the unit standards in this Certificate.
Certificate in Advanced Public Sector Knowledge Level 5 builds on the knowledge acquired in the level 3 course. This qualification aims to provide more senior or executive staff with knowledge and skills specific to their role or business relationship with the State Sector. What are the course entry requirements?
No previous study is required but a good understanding of English and basic computer skills are necessary.
How long does it take to complete the Courses?
The time required will vary from person to person – depending on past experience and available time. We estimate that each unit standard requires between three and ten hours work. There are ten unit standards in the Level 3 Certificate and ten in the Level 5 Advanced Certificate.
How does the assessment system work?
Each unit standard is assessed by: - multi-choice questions, and
- written assessments
To gain credit for the unit standard you need to: - Successfully complete all the written assessments. These can be completed and submitted as you work through the topics, or you can submit them all at the end. Most written assessments focus on your understanding of the material.

- Health and Education Sector Agencies

- Political Parties, including Minister's offices
How long do I have to complete?
12 months from the date that you are enrolled.
