US 19907 Know Your Government Websites

Level 3, 4 credits

This unit describes the government portal and demonstrates its use. Explains legal and other issues in relation to the use of information on government and own agency internet and intranet websites. Requires students to describe their own intranet and internet and demonstrate their use.

Elements:

1. Describes the government portal and requires students to demonstrate how it can be used

Describes the portal's broad structure and general content. Explains why there are government web guidelines for agency websites. Requires student to obtain information from three separate sources.

2. Explains the legal and other issues in relation to the use of information from government and the student's own agency internet and intranet websites.

Explains how the Privacy Act 1993, the Official Information Act 1982 and the Protected Disclosures Act 2000 apply. Outlines the implications of using information from government and agency websites under the Copyright Act 1994. Explains why authentication of individuals is necessary prior to accessing data through the websites.

3. Requires students to describe their own agency's websites and demonstrate their use.

Students are required to describe the purpose and operation of their agency's website and intranet, the methods of ensuring security of information and the process for maintaining up-to-date information on the intranet as well as how guidance is provided to clients to assist in the use of the agency website.
