This unit gives an overview of how to interpret legislation, with particular emphasis on regulations and bylaws. It explains the components of an Act and the different terms that Courts use and the rules that apply when they interpret acts.
Elements:
- Outlines the structure of an Act
Explains how to find one's way around an Act. It explains the different parts, where they are found and their function.
- Interpret a section of an Act
Introduces the first place to start when reading an Act. Explains the importance of parliamentary intent. Outlines some of the common terms used in legislation.
- Identify and interpret regulations, bylaws and/or rules
Discusses the legislative authority for regulations and bylaws and explains the concept and purpose of delegated legislation
