About the course
This certificate has been designed specifically for managers currently working in medical or health practices, to provide them with the basic management skills to manage a small to medium heath or medical practice.(Level 1 or 2 practice)
The certificate is offered as a fully online programme. There are no classes to attend. You have access to a tutor (online) and you'll join a forum where you can get together with other online students. Assessments are work-based and there are no exams.
Course requirements
Participants complete four papers from the NZIM Certificate in Management, as well as a specialist paper relating to the management of medical and health practices. All papers are 10 credits at Level 4.

Purpose
To provide participants with the basic management skills to manage a small to medium heath or medical practice.
This course is for:
People newly engaged as managers of health or medical practices or those without previous management experience. The programme includes an orientation module relating to the essential information skills and experience a person needs to manage any medical or health practice.
The certificate aims to provide participants with:
- knowledge of the health system and how it operates, including legislation and compliance issues
- understanding of health economics and budgeting
- understanding of social and cultural differences and how to respond to them appropriately
- understanding of management practices, including planning, leading, administering and controlling
- understanding of basic accounting practices
- business computing skills
