NZIM Certificate
in Practice Management (Health)

About the course

This certificate has been designed specifically for managers currently working in medical or health practices, to provide them with the basic management skills to manage a small to medium heath or medical practice.(Level 1 or 2 practice)

The certificate is offered as a fully online programme. There are no classes to attend. You have access to a tutor (online) and you'll join a forum where you can get together with other online students. Assessments are work-based and there are no exams.

Course requirements 

Participants complete four papers from the NZIM Certificate in Management, as well as a specialist paper relating to the management of medical and health practices. All papers are 10 credits at Level 4.

Purpose

To provide participants with the basic management skills to manage a small to medium heath or medical practice.

This course is for:

People newly engaged as managers of health or medical practices or those without previous management experience. The programme includes an orientation module relating to the essential information skills and experience a person needs to manage any medical or health practice.

The certificate aims to provide participants with:
  • knowledge of the health system and how it operates, including legislation and compliance issues

  • understanding of health economics and budgeting

  • understanding of social and cultural differences and how to respond to them appropriately

  • understanding of management practices, including planning, leading, administering and controlling

  • understanding of basic accounting practices

  • business computing skills
